CE-0086

European Directive

What does CE/0086 mean?

CE marking in simple terms can be described as a “license to sell” allowing free movement within the internal market of the European Union.  CE marking is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA).

CE is an example of a directive that requires a products/systems is independently tested, certified or inspected by an Approved Body. This is an organization that has been notified to the European Commission by a Member State. The number designation relates to who certified the product. “0086” relates to the BSI, who is a Notified Body for many regulations and the new approach directives.

More about the CE Mark

Products sold in the European Union (EU) in accordance with EU directives/regulations must have the CE mark. The CE mark on the product is the basic requirement that the manufacturer declares that the product meets all applicable directives/regulations. It indicates to relevant agencies that the product can be legally sold in its own country.

The legal instrument laying down the requirements for CE marking of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the European Directive 89/686/EEC.
