Cannon are seeking a Finance Director to take on a senior leadership position within an exciting, ambitious company.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the presentation and delivery of the management accounts, profit and loss, balance sheet, project accounting and transactional ledgers for the Cannon companies based in Coleshill.
Job Description
Cannon Fire Sprinklers & Cannon Fire Safety is a specialist offering the complete design, installation and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems and ancillary services. It supports customers by providing high-quality fire suppression and compliance based on appropriate fire safety legislation. We provide our services to both Commercial and Residential.
It is an exciting time to be part of Cannon Fire Sprinklers & Cannon Fire Safety which is progressing an ambitious but achievable growth strategy. The Finance Director role is a senior leadership position responsible for the presentation and delivery of the management accounts, profit and loss, balance sheet, project accounting and transactional ledgers for the Cannon companies based in Coleshill. This role will partner the Operations teams and provide business partnering advice whilst also keeping the Group Finance Director informed of business performance, risks requiring escalation and opportunities for business improvement.
You will also work closely with the finance team across the Asset Protection Group and provide support to the Group FD on other projects when required.
Role
- Support the CFS team with the submission of applications for payment in accordance with contract dates, ensure accurate accounting and invoicing of certifications and pay less notices, supporting in securing timely receipt of certified payments.
- Ensure correct application of Construction Industry Scheme rules for CIS tax and VAT to contracts and subcontractors and compliance with monthly reporting to HMRC.
- Work with the Finance Manager in preparing the monthly management accounts.
- Ensure correct application of revenue recognition and robust balance sheet provisions.
- Develop appropriate board reporting of financial performance and key issues and risks facing the business.
- Prepare annual budgets and periodic reforecasts for the business.
- Report performance against budget as part of management accounts and explanation of variances.
- Monitoring and forecasting of cashflow to support the wider group cashflow management and treasury requirements.
- Support the Finance Manager in the preparation of supplier and subcontractor payment runs, ensuring matching to GRNs and purchase orders and obtaining appropriate management approvals.
- Management of the Finance Manager to offer support and guidance along with support to the Credit Controller with escalation of collection of overdue debts.
- Attend and present the monthly business reviews on the financial performance of the businesses and provide recommendations and actions to aid decision-making for the leadership team.
- Developing and managing financial systems and policies – Sage Intacct, Simpro and any other systems used
- Recommend methods and strategies for cutting cost and margin improvement.
- Support financial analysis and integration aspects of any acquisitions and strategic projects required.

Person Specification
- Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
- Technically excellent with accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent analytical and numerical abilities
- Experience in construction project accounting principles including Applications for payment, Payment Certificates, CIS and Reverse VAT
- Strong knowledge of Revenue Recognition accounting, particularly in relation to long term contracts
- You will be an experienced well-rounded individual, capable of working with people at all levels within an organisation and will be able to build strong relationships with external parties including customers, suppliers, funding providers and advisors
- Multi business experience
- Experience of SimPRO or other job costing ERP systems
- Experience of using Sage Intacct
- Experience of the construction industry or related businesses
- Ability to work as part of a team but be seen as an expert in their field and provide support to junior finance colleagues
- Confident in producing and presenting financial performance at Board Meetings on a monthly basis
